German Tarot Association: Code of Ethics

Tarot is a multi-facetted tool - developed over many generations - which is used for acquiring self-knowledge and insight. As a user of tarot I will always be aware that - in addition to any specific statement I may make - there are always further meanings and aspects indicated by the metaphorical language of the cards.

I acknowledge that Tarot is a symbolic system with a wide spectrum and that the theme of each card can be perceived in manners both constructive or problematic. For this reason I will avoid predictions and will avoid evaluating any specific card as entirely "negative" or "positive". I will also restrain from making predictions that can be taken as inescapable destiny. Rather I will seek to depict the client's potential for personal development and to strengthen self-determination.

My statements are based on my interpretation of interpreting the Tarot cards. Should I use further tools or methods of prediction, I will disclose these to my client.

I pledge never to forward information received in a Tarot consultation to third parties, nor to use any such information for my own advantage. Concerning legal, financial, medical or psychological questions, for which I have no qualification, I will suggest that clients consult a qualified professional. I will decline unethical questions and will not talk depreciatingly, especially about any absent third party. Concerning questions about education, I will honor and duly respect the child's privacy.

I am fully aware that my readings are always subjective. Therefore I will aim to give advice in such a way that clients remain aware of their own responsibility at any time.

I understand that any breach of this code of ethics may result in exclusion from the association.
